African Kinship series, Elmina Castle (film)


This experimental film explores the relationship between a scientific and emotion based responses to how the history of  slavery is discussed. The film features a computer generated voice that starts off cold and dispassionate, dealing only in communicating facts, and gradually gets more emotional and attached as the film progresses. The film features the faces of Africans from the diaspora (in England), and those living on the continent, (in Ghana), which a extract from Frederick Douglass problematising the notion of the connection of a global African kinship due to the rupture caused by slavery. At the end of the film it introduces the notion of an Inconsequential Monument.
